Summary a few days later

Well back in the Uk for a few days now and I have suddenly been reminded that it is now Christmas…completely forgot it about it while I was away, despite the Final Football match being labelled as God’s team against the Pope’s!

My feet are feeling better maybe it was the holy water in Rabat that poured down for four hours that helped, and I can now start planning more trips!

I have heard from my friends in Morocco – Ayoub’s exam was easy. After a few days (I was worried) I have at long least heard from Yassir, he is fine and has even been doing his homework on Leeds United.

Farouk has had a couple of articles published on the So Foot website, and has enjoyed the experience.

Angelo has moved on to Italy and attended the Inter v Napoli game the day after the Real Madrid – San Lorenzo Final.

Oh, the slippers. I spotted a pair similar to the ones I bought at the airport on the way home. 155 dirhams!

You may have noticed that I did visit each city twice. I would have no hesitation in going back to Morocco. The people made me feel welcome, the kasbah/medina’s  seem like magical places and the food is ….interesting.

As for the football, well the Club World Cup is not the best competition to watch, as the continents are so unevenly matched – watch out for FIFA changing the rules on the teams competing in the future. But the Moroccan league games were an experience played at a frenetic pace. The supporters in Casablanca urged their teams on chanting non-stop for 90 minutes, I was lucky in that these are the two best supported teams.

As for games not being safe, I am afraid that is probably true as I saw sporadic fighting at the games I attended and after the second game saw someone walking down the middle of the road waving a wooden stick about indiscriminately, so I would advise caution.

If you want to see more photos then here is a link for the CWC Morocco 2014 and my Two Nights in Casablanca.

If you have had enough of football and just want to see a bit of Morocco, well here it is.
