After 2 weeks in Portugal in June at Euro 2004, I was off to South America to take in their equivalent Championship, The Copa America. The ten South American teams would be joined by two guests Costa Rica and Mexico, teams would be split into three groups of four with the draw keeping apart the hosts Peru, Brazil and Argentina.
The tournament was spread along the Peruvian coastline, which covers over 2000km next to the Pacific Ocean. This meant the only way of getting between venues would be to fly. Luckily the national airline Aero Continente provided daily flights between the venues on their normal schedule at a reasonable cost.
Of couse no trip to Peru is complete with out a visit to Machu Pichu and the kind schedulers made this possible with a two day break followed by a match in nearby Cuzco.
